9/11 and Books

A really interesting article by gautami tripathy over at The Reading Room. She answers the question

Do real-world catastrophes such as 9/11 (and the bombs in Madrid, and the ones in London, and the war in Darfur, and … really, all the human-driven, mass loss-of-life events) affect what you choose to read?

And here is My Friend Amy's response.

I don't have a spare minute to answer the question for myself, but what do you all think?

  1. For me, if anything, reading is a way to escape the real-world tragedies. Which doesn't mean I don't read tragic stories. Just not... those that hit too close to home, I guess.
